How does the competition work
?
Mind Sports Australia will incorporate a component for Elite Mentathletes,
but overall have more of a festival and family atmosphere than the
Olympiad. This event will be structured in
3 layers:
Elite Competition
This will comprise pre-existing Title Events in a range of Mind Sports.
The prestige of National, State or other titles will attract the
serious, “8-hour-a-day” players. This attracts Master
Players and International Players who assist in promotions
and teaching elements of the Festival.
Novice/Participation Events
For everyone who is interested in playing games, but not prepared
to spend all day playing just one game. Short sessions with Master
Players involved in teaching both basic and more complex elements
and strategies of the Mind Sports. Organised activities, mini-events
and speed tournaments so after learning about a game participants
are able to practice their newly acquired skills. Plenty of Prizes
for these Events.
Social Activities
Themed social activities to go with the main Events. Things like
Trivia contests, puzzles, board games and opportunities to meet new
people. Movies with common themes (“Go Mental” theme)
and with a Mind Sport as a central theme or important part within
the movie. Eg; A Beautiful Mind, Good Will Hunting, Searching for
Bobby Fisher, Spellbound. Music and performances aimed at different
age demographics maintaining the intellectual and fun atmosphere.
